André Gonzales started studying drums and symphonic percussion in the year of 1982, at the famous Brazilian art school Fundação das Artes de São Caetano do Sul, with teachers José Eduardo Lennert, Alfredo Lima and Carmo Bartoloni.

At 14 he was already teaching and performing professionally, and started writing, singing and playing other instruments, like electric bass, acoustic and electric guitars, flute, and piano. Later he attended classes at the Centro Livre de Aprendizagem Musical, school created by the traditional Brazilian jazz and bossa-nova group, Zimbo Trio. Afterwards he studied with the renowned drummer, Duda Neves.

In almost 40 years of music, Gonzales recorded countless albums, soundtracks and advertising scores, and played with many stars and artists like Andy Timmons (USA), Sydnei Carvalho, Roberto Menescal, Jane Duboc, Egberto Gismonti, Gilberto Gil, Celso Pixinga, O Terço, Ricky Furlani, Dalvan, Paulo Ricardo, Marina Elali, Claudia Leitte, Agnaldo Rayol, Hebe Camargo, Léo Maia, Iveline,The Evolution (Symphonic Beatles), Audiofílicos (Dave Matthews Band tribute), Fireball (Deep Purple & Steve Morse tribute), Rush Visions (Rush tribute), Pink Floyd Experience BR (Pink Floyd tribute), Hits Again, Roberto Justus, Junkie Box, Fernando Forni, Pornograffitti, Red, Devotos DNSA, Gwen Leathers (USA), Gabrielle Goodman USA) and Nicky French (UK), among many others.

André is a columnist for Modern Drummer Brasil magazine, writing educational and technical articles.

Gonzales is a teacher since 1987, and the author of BEAT: Complete Method For The Drumset - a collection of 09 books, with around 900 pages - for children, beginners, intermediate and advanced drummers. He also does coaching for teachers.

Gonzales is releasing two more educational works this year: Beat KIDS! and O Baterista Criativo.

With Felipe Drago, Gonzales was co-creator of SoulDrums initiative, which aims to incite constructive debates and the union of the international drummers class.

Besides teaching in his private studio, Gonzales plays with SuperOverDrive, with the awarded record-selling artist Dave Maclean and the groove-oriented group Funkacid. He also continues his work as a session drummer, sideman and freelancer.
